Simple and welcoming, relaxing!

Environment is key. What is your favorite space to host a party and why?

I really enjoy hosting in my own home, I have a few different spaces that make each party feel slightly different. It feels comfortable while also cozy, and I am constantly changing things to make the environment feel different!

Do you have a signature drink or dish you like to serve? Recipe on hand — bonus points.

I am notorious for handing guests a drink as soon as their coats are off, most likely a French 75! I love anything French, and I am the biggest fan of bubbles! (They make everything feel like a celebration!) I also will 100% always have a cheese and meat plate of some capacity. It's a staple in my home!

French 75
2 oz. of your favorite gin (Hendrick's is my choice!)
3/4 oz. fresh lemon juice
3/4 oz. simple syrup
3 oz. champagne
lemon twist for garnish

Combine the gin, lemon juice and syrup in a cocktail mixer and shake with ice until really cold. Strain and pour into a coupe glass then top with the champagne and lemon garnish. Enjoy 1, or maybe 2.

What's your go-to color palette for design?

I love any and all neutrals, but recently I’ve been into pops of blush and pink!

With events, it's important to touch all the senses. The perfect playlist includes...?

I usually start with old classics, Ella Fitzgerald, or Etta James, but often the music get's switched to motown, or 90's r&b! I love a good cocktail party turned dance party!

Who are your dream dinner guests?

Steve Martin: because he would be sure to make me laugh and cry most likely. Dom Perignom: because I would love to hear about his discovery of champagne, and being a monk! Julia Child: because I would want to sit late into the night learning about every little detail of her life!

What inspired your design for "How I Host"?

I am inspired by dinner parties in Europe, the inclination to just sit for hours, far into the night sipping and snacking. It's an experience. I often think of how to make my space feel comfortable, a place where my friends can come in, take their shoes off, pour a glass of wine and just be. My hope is that they can be filled up with just being in my space and knowing they belong.

What pieces did you choose and why?

I chose the cylinder coffee table, which is by far my favorite piece! It is the perfect cozy table for a gathering. Its low profile is the perfect height and it’s the most beautiful wooden color, a great background to whatever you’re serving! It also makes any cheese look beautiful!

I also choose the nomad rug. I just love the simplicity of this rug. It feels nomadic and fresh!

I love the champagne coupe glasses. I need to own these. They are the perfect glass for wine or champagne. I wanted to make some floral ice cubes and knew these glasses would showcase those!

I love the smoked glass candle votives. These were a fun decision, a little out of the box for me, but I love how they created a lower lighting space for people to reach across the table without knocking anything over, but also bringing the perfect spark of light as the sun went down.

What's your best hosting tip for beginners?

Take it easy. Go with the flow and remember you are opening up your home or space—you’ve already done a huge service to your guests.

Everything does not have to be perfect. Plan out the menu weeks before so you can continually by inspired by smells, colors and flavors as your build this tapestry of a party.

Always have a few extra bottles of wine on hand. Allow willing friend's to take part. Remember that you can always order pizza if you run out of food. No one will complain, I promise.
